* cancelled Perspectives on The Slave Trade HI 08 32

It's 200 years since the abolition in British Law of the buying and selling of slaves - 487 years since the first attempt by slaves in the Caribbean at liberating themselves, and almost 204 years since they first succeeded. Yet slavery persisted beyond these dates, and still is with us. Visits and presentations will reflect on over 3000 years of recorded slavery, and we will discuss the shifting attitudes, political and economic factors. We will also look at how the slave trade is both part of a continuum, and is very different in its lasting impact on us. There will be visits to the Transatlantic Slave Gallery at Liverpool Museum, and to examples of the industrial and commercial legacies of slavery in the area. We'll explore some myths and look at the art and music that help tell a fuller story. Additional cost: transport to Museum.
