Garden Finders

- The RHS Garden Finder covers the U.K. and Ireland. Search either by Garden name (or part of a name) or by County; there is also a list of other search criteria that may be added, e.g. parking, plant sales, disabled access etc.
The RHS Events Finder allows you to search by region, month and year and/or keyword for garden events.
N.B. Both the Garden Finder & Events Finder cover a wide range and are not restricted to RHS properties or events.

- The National Trust "looks after one of the greatest collections of historic gardens and cultivated plants in the world" and their Gardens to Visit section gives a themed listing of their gardens, e.g. 'Famous Gardens', 'Hidden Treasures', 'Arches & Pergolas' with links to details of each one; or you can search using the Find a Place to Visit search form. Here you can search for a particular property by name, or select from an A - Z listing, or you can search by keyword, by region, by county and/or by type of property, the latter includes the option 'garden'.
N.B. This is restricted to gardens maintained by the National Trust.

- Kitchen Gardens - "The National Trust looks after more than 25 working and ornamental kitchen gardens throughout the country" and some of these are described here with links to their full details.
- Garden Styles National Trust gardens demonstrate changing garden styles from the Romans to the present day. Here they brocken down by period and/or style with a brief description and links to relevant gardens.

- The National Gardens Scheme, NGS, covering England and Wales, "has been opening fine gardens to the public to raise money for charity for over 75 years. Most gardens which open for the Scheme are privately owned and open just a few times each year. Other gardens, which open to the public on a regular or commercial basis, also kindly contribute to the Scheme in various ways."
Some gardens Open by Appointment and some offer Bed & Breakfast
The NGS Garden Finder allows you to search using their map, or by name, special feature, date etc., or a 'Quick Search', to find a review of gardens open during the current week - when using this last feature gardens are presented just a few at a time, with a 'more gardens....' button at the bottom of the list.

N.B. Not quite all gardens in the scheme are included in the Garden Finder - " Around 3,300 gardens open to the public each year through the National Gardens Scheme and in so doing raise money for charity. Listed under Garden Finder are 88% of these gardens, whose owners have given permission to be included on the website. The complete listing of all gardens participating in the NGS can be found in the Yellow Book 2006 guide "
Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, SGS now have a separate website with its own 'Garden Finder' on the right side of its home page where you can search by region, using the clickable map, by District, from a drop-down menu, and/or by month. Other listings, such as 'Gardens Open This Week', 'Gardens Open by Appointment This Year' are also given on the home page.

- Britain's Gardens from Visit Britain includes Find a Garden which allows you to search by Garden name, or by type of Garden, e.g. Formal, Cottage etc., by specific destination (type in box) or by selecting Region from a drop down menu on the - in this case you need to also tick 'Gardens'under "attraction type" or you can use the Map assisted Search, again you have to also select the type of attraction you are looking for, e.g. 'Gardens'
There is also a section Garden Types which includes short articles describing various types garden, e.g. 'Cottage Gardens', 'Maze Gardens' etc. with links to some gardens of that type that you can visit. N.B. The links appear at the bottom of each article, the heavy type names within the articles are not links.

- Gardens to Visit, from Britain's Finest, allows you to search for "over 300 special gardens to visit throughout Britain, carefully selected by The Times's gardener and broadcaster Stephen Anderton"
Search by clicking on the map, by county, by region, by garden name or by garden classification, e.g. Arboretum, Cottage Gardens, Walled Gardens etc as well as those which are e.g. Child Friendly, Dog Friendly, or have Plant Sales.
For each garden there is a brief description, opening times, map, contact details etc and a link to their official website.
Britain's Finest is essentially a trip planning resource, covering hotels, B&Bs, Art Galleries & Museums, Historic Houses and Attractions as well as Gardens.

- Gardens Guide "edited by Tom Turner, author of English garden design: history and styles since 1650 (1986)" & who "teaches garden history and design at the University of Greenwich" includes a Garden Finder
This Garden Finder has a much greater geographical coverage than those above, aiming to cover North America, Europe, and various other countries including Japan, India, Morocco etc. Search by country, by clicking on the map or by garden name. For each garden there is a brief description, including historic design details, location, entrance fee etc and a link to the official website.
The Gardens Guide also includes some information on garden tours and short breaks, and information on the history of garden design.

- Gardens & Homes (to Visit), from The Gardening Website, lists British Gardens to Visit by County, with brief details of each and links to maps, official websites etc. There are also more linited lists to gardens, and Garden events, in several European countries.
The Gardening Website is a commercial directory of garden related websites covering e.g. Garden Centers, Nurseries, Garden Products, Garden Design etc.

- Essential British Gardens covers the UK and also the Republic of Ireland.
Browse by region, or by clicking on the map, or search using the onsite search engine. There is a brief (sometimes longer) description for each garden, those hosting a plant National Collection are indicated and there is a link either to their official website or some other site giving more comprehensive information.
This site also gives information on Garden Shows & Events and, whilst probably not comprehensive, it does seem to be kept up to date, and there is an online form for those wishing to add their show to the listing (this is free). There are also some listings of various garden related commercial services and goods.
