A Demonstration of Close-up Magic
Dinner & Lecture
Friday 10 July 2009 CO 09 13
Tickets:
£19 inc. dinner at 6.45pm, lecture 8 – 9.30pm
Almost everyone has seen a magician work at a distance - on the stage or on television. But, when it all happens right under your nose, the result is even more effective, more so when no special equipment is used, just everyday items such as a saltcellar, some used bottle caps, a piece of rope or an ordinary pack of cards. You can even bring your own cards from home (no plastic please!). Nothing is gimmicked, nothing is fake, the magic is all in the eye of the beholder!

Tickets:
£19 inc. dinner at 6.45pm, lecture 8 – 9.30pm ;
Last year's blockbuster Exhibition at Tate Liverpool showed us how Klimt painted glittering society portraits in an extravagant style. There are also little known landscapes and his 'private'
paintings, which were subtly erotic. He was the leader of The Secession Movement in Vienna at the turn of the C20th, important in Western architecture and design. Come and explore Klimt's life and his art.

During the C14th, C15th and C16th, the city state of Florence became immensely wealthy and powerful as a result of highly successful merchant trading and banking. Thus the principal Florentine families were able to commission artists and architects to beautify their city, none more so than the Medici. The buildings, statues, paintings and collections of the Medici have made Florence a veritable treasure house during the extraordinary cultural movement known as the Renaissance. The prolific gems of craftsmanship executed by Andrea Pisano, Fra Angelico, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Ghiberti, Michaelangelo, Vasari, Bronzino and Giambologna, to name but a few, continue to astound with their immediacy, skill and beauty. In this lecture, we shall see as many of them as we can.
